The Orchestra Pit
Scaledown #132
(Friday 29th September 2017)

Back for the early autumn, scaledown comes atcha like a momma poppa with their kindling ready to spark the artistic mighty fires in no particular order:

SMALLHAUS - Degraded lo-fi psychedelia, field recordings, ambient guitar drones, space rock and electronics. "tidal waves of shoegaze guitar drain[ing] to leave the hum and drip of degraded tapes, while field recordings from across the UK become backdrops to flickers of melody or acoustic drones, which hang in the foreground like an inner calm or ripe, burdening upset." (ATTN Magazine).

EUGENE COYNE - Eugene Coyne sings and plays songs from his latest album, Castle Coyne, accompanied by Tony Thewlis (Scientists) on electric guitar. Expect a witchy mix of hard rock glyphs and acid folk hallucination, pastoral but with an underlying threat of pug rock ultra-violence.

MIDAS 22 - an innovative blend of traditional melodies with whimsical vocals and rocking guitar a trio with Giorgos Alevizakis.

PETER J KING - Peter J. King was born and brought up Boston, Lincolnshire. He was active on the London poetry scene in the 1970s, became a philosopher in the 1980s (he now teaches philosophy at Pembroke College, Oxford), returning to poetry intermittently, before plunging back in with a belly flop in 2013. His poetry, including translations from German and (with Andrea Christofidou) Greek, has been published in journals such as Acumen, Tears in the Fence, Dream Catcher, Lighthouse, Oxford Magazine, New Walk, Raum, streetcake, Molly Bloom, Eyot, and The Interpreter’s House. His latest collections are Adding Colours to the Chameleon (2016, Wisdom’s Bottom Press) and All What Larkin (2017, Albion Beatnik Press).

SKOPJE - captivating voice, beautiful lyrical imagery..... Skopje will transfix, transport and delight..... promise (or your money back).

MARTIN WHITE - "But he's the leader of the band ..... duh, duh, duh..... by band we mean the Mystery Fax Machine Orchestra, but we've been welcoming Martin as a solo act way before their formation and we're delighted to have him back in solo guise once more to promote the new album from ... The Mystery Fax Machine Orchestra.

CAROLINE TRETTINE - Deep, sweet, witty, poetic, authentic art-pop-folk from a singer-writer/guitar-player with Blue Aeroplanes background, discovered by Billy Bragg and Pete Jenner...... 'Like [Sandy] Denny, Trettine hovers over great melancholy with an almost detached air that only cuts closer to the quick' **** Q Magazine.
